Stainless Steel 304

How do I choose between 304 and 316 stainless steel ?

Cost: 316 is more expensive due to its higher nickel content and molybdenum. 304 is the more economical choice.
Cleaning: 316's increased resistance allows for more frequent cleaning with stronger detergents and cleansers without damaging or altering the stainless steel's appearance.
Machining: 304 is easier to machine and shape, and comes in many finishes. 316 requires the right tools to machine well.
Strength: 304 has a higher yield strength than 316, which is important for high tolerance machining.
Weldability: 316 has slightly better weldability due to its lower carbon percentage.
Temperature: 316 performs slightly better at high temperatures.
Appearance: The two are indistinguishable in appearance.
